Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

  • Opened in 1909 as a steel and concrete structure and was completed in 122 days
  • Designed by Charles Leavitt who also designed Belmont and Saratoga race tracks
  • Original seating capacity was 23,000 and expanded to 41,000 in 1925
  • Home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Steelers football team and the Panthers football team, and the University of Pittsburgh football team
    • Steelers played from 1909  to  1970
    • Panthers played from 1909 to 1924
    • Pirates from 1909 to 1970
  • Ball park named after General John Forbes, a French and Indian War hero who named the City of Pittsburgh
  • Ball Park had a very large field of play with dimensions of: 360 feet to left, 462 feet to center and 376 to right field
    • Although known as a pitchers ball park there was never a no-hitter thrown there
  • The last game was played there in 1970
